‘Where is the best family resort accommodation?’ is the #1 question I get asked. So I’ve hit the pavement in search of the best. Bali is a great place for a family holiday. There is as much or as little to do as you want. It’s the perfect blend of culture, warm weather, beach and rural activity. Let’s not forget that being in Asia, it’s also kind on the bank balance. Bali offers many regions and experiences for families – from budget to super lux expensive. From the resort enclave of Nusa Dua, the fast paced Kuta area to the rolling hills of rice fields in Ubud you are sure to create happy family memories. There are literally thousands of hotels in Bali and this list is not the only great hotels that are out there, but they are the ones that I love and hear good reports on.
If there was an award for Kid Friendly Entertainment, then Hard Rock Hotel Bali would win first place. Huge swimming pools, mini waterslides, Kids club, Waterpark play area, real sand beach and groovy tunes pumping out around the pool is sure to keep even the fussiest of kiddies entertained. Plus, who doesn’t love a theme hotel? It’s not all about the little kids at Hard Rock though – even the teenagers are happy. Tabu is a club designed especially for teenagers, equipped with a multi-purpose DJ booth, internet, gaming lounge, private cinema, pool table and chill out zone.
Sleeping arrangements are also very easy at Hard Rock. Deluxe rooms are offered as either 2 Queen size beds, or a King bed and day beds which convert to beds for younger kids. This is huge for families as it eliminates the need to book a 2nd adjoining room. The loft room, which provides 3 Queen Sized beds is great for families with older kids or more than 2 children. However, if you have kids under 12 and want a room to remember then the Kids Suite and Luxury Kids Suite is sure to blow your mind. These rooms are equipped with a second bathroom, children’s toilet, Play station 3 and other children’s entertainment. The kids are sure to be happy sleeping in bunk beds in a room decorated especially for kids.
Situated along the shores of Kuta’s famous beach, Hard Rock sits in a pretty good location. A quick 15-minute Taxi ride from the airport will have you in your room in no time. Located across from the beach and Kuta Square and only a 5-minute walk to the BeachWalk shopping centre, there are loads of restaurant options and shopping opportunities close by.
Pros: Kids Pool Areas, Cleanliness, Happy Staff
Cons: Food and Beverage options are pricey
The Stones hotel is a newer property also located along the shores of the famed Kuta Beach. The hotel is framed around the large pool complete with a raised level for in pool loungers which is great for little kids to play in by your side. The kids club is also located right next to the pool, swim up bar and restaurant, making it easy for parents to check on the very happy kids inside – and why wouldn’t they be happy? 3 Hours of Kids club per day is included for all hotel guests for free! #winning! The Club is equipped with a kid’s cinema, PlayStation’s, reading corner and attentive staff ready to help out with the latest craft activity.
The breakfast at The Stones Kitchen is amazing, with every possible option available. Eggs any style, Pancakes and Waffles, Fresh fruit, cold cuts, pastries, local Indonesian favorites, fresh juice bar and even ice cream!! Even the fussiest of eaters is sure to walk away with a full tummy!
Situated in Legian, the Hotel is within a short walking distance to Jl. Melasti, Jl. Padma, Beachwalk and Poppies Lane 2 precincts which offer loads of great restaurants, market style shopping outlets and entertainment.
Pros: Free Kids Club, Great Pool, Good Location
Cons: Families require interconnecting rooms, One Way Street for Taxi’s returning to the hotel (get your taxi to drop you off at the corner of Jl Melasti and Jl. Sahadewa and walk 500m back to the hotel saving you time and $$$
I happen to love this hotel, for many reasons. 1. It’s in a great location, especially if you are looking for some fantastic restaurant and café experiences 2. It has a great, multi-level pool with lots of sunlounge area, swim up bar and a quiet shaded pool area towards the rear which kids love 3. The kids club is exceptional – a really fun lively room and daily activities for kids around the hotel so they are not stuck in doors all day at kids club 3. The rooms are beautifully appointed and exceptionally clean. The 2 Bedroom suite is a great option for families who require a little more space to spread out 5. Although the hotel is not beachfront, it has its own private beach club for guests which you are taken to by hotel buggy only minutes away – this is great for kids as walking home after a long hot day at the beach can be the ruin of a great day.
Pros: Great Pool, Great Kids Club Activities, Great location
Cons: Families require rollaway bed in most room types or adjoining rooms. Bar prices are a little high.
An older property which is really popular for families thanks to a good location, great pool, nice restaurant, small kids club and daily kid’s poolside activities (weather permitting).
The pool here is great for kids. It’s multi-level lagoon style pool running the length of the property is the centerpiece of the resort. Ample deck chairs are well positioned in crisp white sand, which is great for the kids to play in the sand with buckets and spades. The Kids club is small however what the room size lacks the outside activities make up for.
The rooms are light, airy and tastefully appointed. Although the hotel is older than most of the new structures popping up, it has been kept in fairly good condition. Interconnecting rooms and rollaway beds are available on request.
Located directly across the road from The Courtyard by Marriott Seminyak, The Breeze Bali Resort & Spa is also in a great location. A short stroll will see you pass many market style shops, day spas and restaurants. The buzz, flavour and fun of Seminyak is only a short walk and taxi ride away.
Pros: Pool, Sand at the pool, kid’s activities, reasonable food and beverage prices, onsite cooking class.
Cons: Families require rollaway or interconnecting rooms
As far as resorts go, this place is amazing. Situated on 103 Hectares of cliff top coast line, Pan Pacific Nirwana is simply stunning. Located in Tabanan, West Bali, this 5 Star Resort offers stunning views and world class amenities. If relaxing in a resort which is far enough away from the temptation of the hustle and bustle is on the menu, then this is a wonderful place to start.
An award winning Golf Course and beautiful spa means it’s not all about the kids while you are away – although they will be completely taken care of in the fantastic Kokokan Kids Club. Activities include Balinese dance lessons, pottery, painting, hair braiding, high rope activities, nail painting, kite making, rice planting and even a baby turtle release program every Tuesday during the months of June – December. If the kids were not entertained enough by the kid’s club there is a huge sprawling 4 tier swimming pool complete with 54m waterslide, waterfall and basketball nets! The resort also offers and onsite nanny service at very reasonable prices – approx. AUD$10 per hour.
Accommodation options are endless however, the spacious family room is a great option. Complete with bunk beds for kids, full size Queen for mum and dad and conveniently located close to the playground.
Located just 20 mins north of Seminyak and 15 mins from Canggu, it’s still easy enough to pop into the buzz for great restaurants and shopping.
Pros: Fantastic kids club and onsite nanny service, pool and waterslide
Cons: 1-hour drive from Airport, Onsite restaurants are pricey.
