One of my favorite memories as a child was visiting the Ansett Golden Wings lounge with my Mum and Dad. My dad travelled for work a lot, so it was always an adventure to be able to tag along and take him to the airport to say goodbye. There was always something so special about walking into that beautiful lounge with immaculately presented airline staff and beautiful fabric couches as far as the eye could see. Ill never forget the feeling of adventure watching those awe inspiring aircraft visible on the tarmac from the huge windows – they were so close you could almost touch them. I was always especially excited if it happened to coincide with breakfast time, because that meant Bircher Muesli. It was the first thing I looked for and remember serving up myself a huge spoonful into the cute little bowls.
Its still a favorite today, and for good reason. Its nourishing and comforting at the same time and a great way to start your day. This creamy Bircher Muesli recipe has been a family favorite in our house for decades. Its soft combination of Oats, Apples, Yogurt and Honey fills you up and keeps you going right through till lunch time. So easy to make, its great to have a batch ready in the fridge for an easy quick breakfast.
1 Cup Plain Vanilla Yogurt
3 Cups Rolled Oats
1 Cup Orange or Apple Juice
1 Cup Sultanas
2 Tbsp Honey
1 Diced Apple
1 Diced Banana
1/4 Cup Slivered Almonds
- Combine Rolled Oats, Juice, Yogurt, Sultanas and Honey and refrigerate overnight.
- Add fruit and nuts and stir to combine.
- Serve alone or add in your favorite fruits eg blueberries, raspberries
- We have noticed that the mixture may be either too dry or too wet depending on the brand of yogurt and oats used. If the mix is too thick add more juice or too think add more yogurt.
